Computing at Yealand
At Yealand Church of England Primary School, our Computing curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong digital confidence. In an ever-evolving digital world, we aim to equip our pupils with the computational thinking, creativity, and digital literacy required to become active, responsible participants in modern society.
Guided by our Christian vision – “Let all you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14) – and our motto “Inspire, Believe, Achieve,” we approach technology not just as a tool for productivity, but as a vehicle for connection, creation, and community. We want our children to understand that technology, when used with love, respect, and responsibility, can be a powerful force for good.
Our intent is for all children to:
- Become Digital Creators: Learn to code, program, and express themselves creatively through a variety of digital media.
- Develop Computational Thinking: Build problem-solving resilience, logical reasoning, and debugging skills that apply across all areas of learning.
- Master Functional Skills: Gain fluency in essential everyday software, confidently manipulating text, data, and multimedia to present their work.
- Be Discerning and Critical Users: Evaluate digital content critically, understanding how information is found, shared, and consumed online.
- Be Safe and Responsible Digital Citizens: Model our school values online by demonstrating kindness, empathy, and respect, keeping themselves and others safe in the digital space.
